36th Street is a station on the BMT Fourth Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. Located at 36th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, it is served by the D, N and R trains at all times, and by the M train during rush hours.
This is an express station with two island platforms and four tracks. The M and R trains provide local service, while the N and D trains run express (except during late nights, when they provide local service). During late nights, this station is the northern terminal for the R shuttle to Bay Ridge–95th Street. South of here, N and R trains continue on Fourth Avenue, while D and M trains diverge east onto the BMT West End Line.
36th Street station underwent overhaul in 1998 to 1999. This station was received needed repairs as well as upgrading the station for ADA compliance. MTA did repair the staircases, re-tiling for the walls, new tiling on the floors, upgrading the station's lights, installing ADA yellow safety threads along the platform edge, new trackbeds for local and express trains entering the station and also installing some artworks around the station's entrance.
